Five FT Finds

An FTer birthday this week - wish Point_Chaser a happy birthday on 6th June.

Jenbel and chrissxb have set up a fantastic consolidated do thread. So I am looking for 1 more new find to showcase each week. Any suggestions please by PM (click here)?

New news - pax hospitalised after turbulence.

Something from the talking heads, err Talk Board - nothing new this week!

Something random - the topic of getting miles for a 2nd seat comes up from time to time. Here is a recent thread including comments about miles for a seat for a cello.

British Airways has modified its seating policy somewhat after many customer complaints. Check out if you benefit from the modifications.

A little known star alliance gold benefit

Did you know there is a *G benefit available in some circumstances even when not flying *A? I'm not talking about open door lounge access that certain top elites have. To find out more, check out this thread on the *A forum.

An airline listens to its customers

United Airlines has done away with its planned removal of mileage conversion upon expiry of 500-miler upgrade certificates for certain members. Check if you qualify here.

Rate the major airports

Which of the 30 busiest airports are the most pleasurable(?!) according to FTers, and which are least? Results to date are not surprising (to me).

Here is a Sweet Offer...

...if you are traveling in the United States on Friday, June 1, 2007 and you are craving for something sweet, you may get yourself an absolutely free doughnut on National Doughnut Day.

National Doughnut Day?!?

Why do I not have the day off from work?!?

Anyway, sprinkle this news around the hole office on your next coffee break. Then, sink your teeth into this pormotion by hopping into your rusted old Toyota Cruller to venture for your doughnut. The icing on the cake is that it is free!!!

Airline Survey: Which Airline in the United States Ranked the Worst?

According to the latest issue of Consumer Reports magazine, this airline ranked worst in a rating by 23,000 readers.

New Feature to The Gate: Can You Guess the Topic of This Thread, and in Which Forum it is Located?

Please do not cheat by clicking on the link just yet.

Can you guess what is the topic of the Arrrrgh stupid stupid thread, and in which forum is it located?

The only hint that you will be given is that travel is discussed in this thread.

By the way, I am not attempting to pick on the FlyerTalk member who posted this thread. Rather, the title of the thread caught my eye and my interest, and I was quite curious to investigate as to what is its topic.

If you had already clicked on the link to the thread before venturing a guess, you are required to walk around in circles in a popular public venue repeatedly citing "Arrrrgh stupid stupid!" "Arrrrgh stupid stupid!" for a minimum of seven straight hours.

A Breath of Fresh Air: Only in the United States?

Reading the Individualized Air nozzles - A US Only Phenomenon??? to find out whether or not aircraft of carriers not based in the United States are equipped with individual air nozzles over each seat should be a breeze.

Go ahead - get relaxed and nozzle up to this cool thread. It will keep you on the edge of your seat - or, at least, in your seat...

Scary takeoff incident

virtualtroy tells of a recent scary incident after takeoff. Most of my memorable incidents have been on landing although I do recall one particular takeoff earlier this year on a very stormy day with gusty cross winds where we had some lurches towards the hills that surround the airport. What scary incidents have you had?

The Trip That Did Not Exist by the Passenger That Was Never On the Manifest?

I do not envy poor FlyerTalk member IsleSeat, whose mileage statement is currently a mess.

Imagine that you never were a passenger on the flight on which you were supposed to take, and that you were never on the manifest on the flight which you were a passenger!

Imagine going to Madrid when you thought you were going to Barcelona, despite having your boarding pass checked at least twice and there being no announcements.

What, then, actually gets credited to the frequent flier account?

Finally, imagine wanting to post this story but was unsure as to which FlyerTalk forum it should be posted.

How does this whole mess get resolved?!?

Read more about this bizarre tale in the Spanair - in wrong flight! thread, which was brought to our attention.

New news - high prices is not the only reason to park off the airport.

Something from the talking heads, err Talk Board - not much to report this week. The second motion to amend the wording of travelling with disabilities also failed.

Something random - I notice the differences in Coke (the drink, not the other drug) in various countries and apparently there are also differences in other foods. Can you help FTer brosnan6 on how to get european nutella?

Delta Air Lines Flight Simulators: Do You Have Any Questions?

FlyerTalk member knfenimore is a Delta Air Lines simulator technician and is happy to answer any questions you may have pertaining to the flight simulators located at the world headquarters of Delta Air Lines in Atlanta.

For example, did you know that Delta Air Lines has a total of 22 flight simulators in Atlanta?

Can a flight simulator be used to practice avoidance of enemy fire, such as missiles? What does it take to become a pilot for Delta Air Lines?

The answer to these questions can be found in the Delta Simulators thread - and your questions may be answered there as well, if you would only visit that thread and post them.

Finally, a bit of trivia: if you are wondering about the FlyerTalk name of knfenimore, yes, he is related to James Fenimore Cooper.

Do You Ever Leave Your Laptop in Your Hotel Room?

Well - do you?!?

FlyerTalk member lexi wants to know.

Personally, that does not compute for me, but the key is whether or not you are the type of person that would have the drive to monitor a discussion such as this one. Screen through the responses in that thread, but try not to slip a disc in doing so, for you will be subject to a bad memory.

Go ahead - plug into the Do you ever leave your laptop in your hotel room? thread and read it. We both know you will be turned on by it.

...and Ireland is one country which it was built in
They exist in Dublin and Belfast
But your attention will not last
Unless I can think of another word that rhymes with Hilton.

Well - other than expressing it with a really bad limerick, how else do you expect me to explain that you need to peruse the Hilton Limerick Hotel thread if you want information about that specific property?

How to Travel Around the World as Inexpensively as Possible

I suppose that the cheapest way to travel around the world is to walk around a globe.

For those of you who seriously want to travel around the world but are limited on funds, please review the Around the world on low-cost thread.

There is even a link within that thread about how one can travel around the world for fewer than £500, which is roughly equivalent to US$1,000.

However, do not expect luxury. Consider yourself warned.

Break Fast With This Room Service Trick for Breakfast!

I promise that I am not egging you on with this one.

FlyerTalk member Kettering Northants QC imparts a trick that really brings home the bacon when it comes to juicing up one's room service breakfast, resulting in milking the experience for all - or more than - it is worth.

Instead of leaving your first meal of the day to mere toast, try buttering up your room service breakfast experience instead. Read the Anyone tried this room service trick? thread to find out additional information, but watch out: try this trick in the wrong hotel, and you may find yourself in a jam.

Orange you glad I alerted you to this thread?
