Confessions of a FTer

Not that kind of confessions! Have you left your passport behind? Find out who would be so silly.

FF program for infants?

How do you collect miles for infants travelling on full fares (as opposed to infant fares)? Seems it isn't as simple as you might expect.

Teach an Old Hotel New Tricks?

Well, that is not exactly what the Stupid hotel tricks thread is about. Rather, it is currently about mistimed check-in times, especially at airport hotels.

Check out the check-in check-up of the Stupid hotel tricks thread...

Freddies results are in

Slightly late but click for the live report and results. Who's that I see in the fourth picture from the top? None other than fellow The Gate author canarsie, and of course Randy.

How did your programs do?

Parents in first, kids in coach

... for a trip from San Diego to Nairobi. Not exactly a short flight. What are your thoughts on this? Should it be allowed? Should the kids fly first and the parents slum it in coach?

Five FT Finds

An FTer birthday this week - wish goalie a happy birthday on 1st May, which is also the official birthday of FFPs.

Jenbel and chrissxb have set up a fantastic consolidated do thread. So I am looking for 1 more new find to showcase each week. Any suggestions please by PM (click here)?

New news - check out airline ratings based on DOT data.

Something from the talking heads, err Talk Board - Talk Board voted for a travel photography forum and the new forum is already up and running. Discussions on the Talk Board forum continues on a request to review the recent changes to the Mileage Run forum, FT "status", a proposed forum for renting/house swaps, and whether Talk Board should include members who are also moderators.

Something random - it will soon be easier to fly to Greenland with Air Greenland starting service from Washington.

PA safety announcements during red-eye flight

The Saint had an unfortunate experience with PA safety announcements made during the night red-eye flight and wonders if that is normal.

It is interesting to read about mileage runs from decades ago. What is your story?

Five FT Finds

Apologies for missing a couple of weeks of Five FT Finds (thanks to dodgy internet in some far-flung places I've been travelling). So this week I bring a special bumper edition.

An FTer birthday this week - wish stut a happy birthday on 23rd April.

Also birthday greetings to blondebomber today (20th April), and belated greetings to Kennewick Guy on Friday the 13th April.

Jenbel and chrissxb have set up a fantastic consolidated do thread. So I am looking for 1 more new find to showcase each week. Any suggestions please by PM (click here)?

New news - Southwest is looking at adding inflight wi-fi.

Something from the talking heads, err Talk Board - Talk Board voted against the motion to not include OMNI posts in post count and, in case you missed it, the Swiss airline forum was moved to be a subforum of Miles & More, that forum being renamed from Lufthansa. Voting is underway on a new travel photography forum.

There are also current discussions on the Talk Board forum on a new BAA Worldpoints forum, how to find out who is on Talk Board, whether there should be a sticky or announcement when Talk Board is voting on motions, a request to review the recent changes to the Mileage Run forum, FT "status", and finally (phew) whether OMNI should be changed.

Something random - United FTers are excited that Las Vegas now has a small number of mainline UA flights as alternatives to Ted. LapLap is no longer scared of beetroot.

How to Gain Free Lounge Access

Don't be fooled by the title of the An $8000 "entry fee" for LH Gold lounge thread. FlyerTalk member kevinsac ultimately gained complimentary access to one of the Senator lounges in Frankfurt by purchasing a fully-refundable first-class international ticket, to which kevinsac received a full refund after using the lounge for a few hours to wait for a friend.

As a result of posting his story, controversy and debate has erupted in the thread. Was using the Senator lounge for a few hours a smart way to use the system? After all, kevinsac is a Star Alliance Gold member and is usually entitled to perks, and kevinsac did technically follow the rules.

Or, did kevinsac beat the system in an illegal manner?

What do you think?

Parking Spaces for Women

I personally have never seen them, but FlyerTalk member exbayern appreciates parking spaces reserved for women in hotel and park houses in Bavaria and Austria.

They exist for the safety of women.

I have seen parking spaces reserved for pregnant women, specifically at a supermarket near where I live in the United States.

What do you think of this idea? Have you seen them anywhere else?

Please park your comments in the Women parking spots thread - but don't read between the lines...

Chicago to Los Angeles: A 98 Minute Flight on Continental Airlines?

That is what a public relations booklet claims will happen - in the 1970s.

It is the alleged announcement of a proposed Supersonic "Golden Jet" Service on Continental Airlines for the 1970s.

Find out more about this reportedly rare gem of Continental Airlines history that never happened in the thread called The Continental Golden Jet SST - On Order For the 1970's.

As for me, I am satisfied to have actually flown on Air France Concorde from New York to Paris one week before service ceased forever - and I used miles for that trip!

Spreadsheets: An Advantage for AAdvantage Members

If you are a member of the American Airlines AAdvantage frequent flier program, you are in luck.

FlyerTalk member and American AAdvantage forum moderator JDiver has graciously posted useful spreadsheets to download in the AAdvantage spreadsheets available for download thread.

Currently, as of the time this is posted, there are two spreadsheets available, courtesy of the generosity of FlyerTalk members JGR01 and McFlyPHL.

How can these spreadsheets help you as an American Airlines AAdvantage frequent flier member? You will not find out from me. Click here for details.

Gifts for Chinese Hosts: Suggestions?

If you are fortunate enough to go to China and have Chinese hosts do "all sorts of favors" for you, as they are for FlyerTalk member Steve007NY, you will want to reciprocate in any way possible.

Steve007NY thought it would be a good idea to bring gifts - but what gifts should he bring? After all, he says that "Ninety percent of things seems to be 'Made in China!!'", and it would seem strange to bring something from the United States that is made in China to someone living in China.

What gift ideas do you think a Chinese person would appreciate? Would you believe, multivitamins?!?

Find out what other gifts are suggested - strange as some of them may be - in the Suggestions for gifts to bring Chinese hosts? thread.

Of course, before reading that thread, be certain that you have already had your dose of multivitamins...
