What Exactly is the Naked Truth About Backscatter X-Ray Technology?

The Transportation Security Administration - or TSA - announced that they are testing a new Backscatter X-Ray security scanner at the airport in Phoenix.

The debate is whether or not this technology infringes upon the rights of travelers and whether or not it actually invades their privacy.

Of course, some FlyerTalk members accuse the TSA of dressing down the concerns pertaining to this technology - butt you already nude that, of course.

For opinions, thoughts, and debate - as well as links to news stories and even pictures - please read the controversial Backscatter X-Ray at Phoenix is here thread. Please join in on this discussion and keep abreast of this issue.

Surreal Cereal?

It is rather flaky that The Cereal Thread is located in the DiningBuzz! forum. After all, I simply do not equate cereal and dining in the same thought, as I am not bowled over by this concept - but what do I know, and who am I to spoon-feed you?

I realize that you think that wheat be better off withoat my corny puns, as I am really milking them here, but I do not intend to be insulted and leave here in a puff. That simply goes against my grain.

Let us simply partake in the thread dedicated to admitted cereal killers typically in a crunch for time to Post their thoughts and opinions...

Pimple Problems?

Face it: acne, as an adult... can be a serious problem, especially for a female traveler.

Despite waking up oily in the morning and getting creamed, this problem can be rough for some people who suffer from acne. Hopefully, when one is in a squeeze with this condition, the cure will pop out of nowhere.

There are some people who think that acne was that company that supplied all of the anvils and other merchandise in those Bugs Bunny and Road Runner cartoons.

Anyway, seriously: if you have this problem, read the thread. If you can offer a solution, please post in the thread. Other FlyerTalk members have already offered some good advice.

The Very Bestest Bar in the Whole Wide World...

...is a chocolate bar.

I am certain some lawyers would argue what they believe is the bestest bar - but they would have to pass it first.

Anyway, I had better clean up my act here with a bar of soap and inform you that FlyerTalk member Showbizguru asks the timeless question: what is The very bestest bar in the whole wide world ?

Take a shot at answering the question in that thread. Do not wine if your response becomes toast by the responses of other FlyerTalk members looking for a rum-ble - just grin and beer it. Do not mug in that thread, as that is considered a pain in the glass. Whiskey on over there now, because bar none - that is the best question I have seen all day.

To continue, iron workers would be wrought over this question by thinking that a metal bar is the bestest. I am shore that lifeguards would suggest a sand bar, which would go against the grain of some people. Security personnel who keep people out of places would say that the bestest bar ---

Oh, by the way, in case you are wondering: I am not drunk as I write this, because I do not - and never did - drink alcohol at all. However, I will drink to that...

US$5.00 Starbucks Gift Card for Filling Out an Easy Survey!

Normally, threads from the S.P.A.M. forum are usually not highlighted here at The Gate.

However, you can receive a gift card worth US$5.00 at Starbucks if you fill out the simple survey.

You are probably wondering why I would choose to highlight the Easy Survey- get $5 Starbucks card thread here...

...the reason is simple: You may need to eat whilst on the run at an airport.

Please allow me to explain...

Last year, a fellow FlyerTalk member was kind enough to personally give me and other FlyerTalk members a Starbucks gift card worth - you guessed it - US$5.00. Although I thanked her for the generous gift, I wondered to myself what I would do with this card, especially since I do not drink coffee.

One day, months later, I found myself in the airport between Seattle and Tacoma in Washington state, waiting to board a flight to Houston - or was it Anchorage? Who remembers?!?

Anyway, I was really hungry and had not had a chance to eat. Suddenly, I realized that I still had that US$5.00 Starbucks gift card. I figured that I would wander over to the nearest Starbucks to see what they had. I never patronize Starbucks, so I was hoping they sold more than just coffee. Perhaps a pastry would tide me over - if they sold them, that is...

Imagine my surprise when I discovered that Starbucks actually sold sandwiches! Because I used the US$5.00 Starbucks gift card, I spent a total of 25¢ for my sandwich, which definitely kept me going.

When I saw that FlyerTalk member a couple of months later, I thanked her for dinner. The puzzled look on her face was priceless!

Anyway, that is why I posted the link to the Easy Survey- get $5 Starbucks card thread - so that you can thank me for dinner, or on whatever else you used that US$5.00 Starbucks gift card that you should receive if you act quickly and take advantage of this offer.

Is Collecting Airline Amenity Kits a Sign of Sickness?

If so, I may need to go to the doctor for a check-up.

Of course, there are many people who would agree with this statement even without me collecting amenity kits - but I digress.

Read the Sign of Sickness - Collecting Amenity Kits thread to find out more about this contagious disease referred to by FlyerTalk member Wiggums.

FlyerTalk member carl92103 recommends joining Amenity Kits Anonymous. However, I believe it would confuse people if this organization was also called the American Kleptomaniac Association, because then it would be the AKA, aka AKA.

A FT Do in the next 30 days - spring time in Alaska. Okay a misnomer but with a week long Alaskan Spring Break Do 16-24 March at least some of the time the weather's gotta be as good as the scenery and company, right?

A FT Do in the next 3-6 months - following in the footsteps of last year's very successful do with Continental, this time it is Delta that has stepped up to the plate. Come to CVG 1-3 June and find out what Delta has in store for your.

Something from the talking heads, err Talk Board - forum requests for travel video and photography, and ExpressJet Airlines. Also a proposal for Coupon Connection access.

Something random - the sorry state of the new Bangkok airport at Suvarnabhumi continue to get media coverage. It is unclear whether some/all/none flights will revert to Don Muang. Official Insiders on Flyer Talk

A post on View from the Wing by gleff alerted me to Delta Skymiles having an official insider on Flyer Talk, which got me wondering how many others there may be.

(Note lots of frequent flyer programs or hotel/car/credit card etc have staff as members of Flyer Talk, in an unofficial capacity. Some of these lurk and some are active posters. For this entry I am referring only to those authorised to provide advance information or clarify things - ie official insiders.)

A list, probably incomplete (link is to their official coming out):

* bmi - Joanna (diamond club)
* British Airways - Lyndsay Meldrum, Executive Club Customer Service (BA Executive Club)
* Continental - Scott O'Leary, MD Customer Experience (CO Insider)
* Delta - Jeff Robertson, MD Skymiles (RealDLInsider)
* Delta - Frank Wrenn, Customer Insights & Analytics group (DeltaCustomerInsights)
* Southwest - name unknown (High on Luv)
* Southwest - Bill Owen, Schedule Planning Lead Planner (skeds_r_us)
* Hilton - Cynthia Ortiz (Cynthia_O)
* Marriott - Chris Janecek (Marriott Concierge)
* Starwood - William R. Sanders, Customer Service Coordinator (Starwood Lurker)

I think it is great that programs realise the value and goodwill of official insiders on FT. If anyone has any others to add to the list, please let me know by PM and I'll update this entry.

Free airport parking for pick-ups

Many airports charge like a wounded bull for parking while waiting to pick up arriving passengers. Some even provide no short-term parking options forcing those waiting to drive around and around in a loop.
